Make a Trip to San Jose Island
Exploring San Jose Island
Transportation
San Jose Island is privately owned and free of vehicles. Therefore, the only way to get to San Jose Island is by taking the Jetty Boat from Fisherman’s Wharf, Port Aransas. The island is so close to the Texas coast that you can see it from the port; it’s only a five-minute boat ride. Be sure to purchase your boat ticket before boarding the Jetty!
Shelling
Since San Jose Island’s beaches are uninhabited, they make for a great place to swim, surf, beachcomb and shell. Shelling is finding, observing and collecting shells from the beach. San Jose Island visitors have found seashells, sand dollars, lightning whelks, shark eyes, angel wings, starfish and many other species of shells on the shoreline. Remember to bring a bucket with you on your visit since guests are permitted to collect seashells! It’s important to wear sandals, water shoes or flip flops while browsing the beach since you never know what can wash up from the ocean.
Fishing
San Jose Island is home to some of the best fishing in Texas. Visitors and locals enjoy casting their line for Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder and more. If you’re hoping to experience fishing on a well-equipped charter, Port Aransas offers head boats to take you on a fishing trip. These trips range from a few hours to sunrise through sunset. Before ferrying back to Port Aransas, leave San Jose Island clean and undisturbed for other visitors to enjoy.
